Taking off the winter coats. Shearing time with the Sheriff Alpacas.

Updated: May 28, 2021

Oreo, before and after his haircut.

It's that time of year again. The shears are out and the heavy winter coats are coming off. Once a year, our alpacas get a visit from the professionals to get a much needed haircut.

The shearing is super-speedy, taking around 4 minutes to remove the whole fleece, which is then turned into a soft and light hypoallergenic fibre, ready to make garments and yarn.

Annual shearing is such an important part of our alpacas wellbeing, stopping them from overheating as we head into the warmer months. Although they don't exactly love the process, as soon as the shearing is done they head off happily, ready to sunbathe.
